MOUNT ISA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS, QUEENSLAND OUTBACK.
Country charm meets the ocean at sunset! When I was asked to cover Kieren and Kylie’s Mount Isa wedding at Karumba by Kieren’s mother (one of my good friends), I was elated. I was also confronted with a good deal of travel. Karumba is almost in the middle of nowhere (if it wasn’t in such an amazing location!). Travelling to Mount Isa for an outback country wedding is quite a distance, and the extra five hour drive to Karumba, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, adds quite a bit to the logistics, with only one stop for fuel and refreshments along the way. You can also fly via Cairns; I got to do both!
I arrived in Karumba the day before. I had plenty of time to photograph this wonderful group of young people as they learnt to walk down the aisle and dance, at the rehearsal dinner. Now that was funny! The next day was quite the transformation – such a stunning bridal party! The backdrop of the End of the Road Motel in Karumba was just perfect – such incredible sunsets. Living on the east coast, it’s not often I get to see a sunset over the water. Such an emotional day.
I would dearly love to do more Mount Isa weddings. It’s such a quick flight from Brisbane. To Kieren and Kylie – it’ time to start planning your album! Enjoy!
